Basketball

Our basketball program follows and where possible improves on international standards, and our coaches are qualified, experienced, friendly and fun to ensure effective delivery.  We aim to enable participants to both learn and enjoy the sport by ensuring it is:

Fun - children¡¯s learning usually takes place better in a fun environment, so have built-in activities to make lessons enjoyable and rewarding.
Progressive ¨Cchildren are often asked to participate with performers of differing ability levels. This means less confident players can learn and develop more quickly when playing with more advanced children, and more confident children can, when appropriate, be asked to assist and demonstrate, helping them to further develop their own understanding of skills, techniques and tactics.

The program is broken down into four junior levels 1-4, aimed at children aged 4-12 years. Children in each level are given their own ID tag that helps both them and you follow their progress against specific criteria.

Level 1 ¨C Handling Heroes (Ages 4-6)
The focus of this group is ball handling skills. Fun games and drills are used to practice basic dribbling, shooting and passing, to provide a basis for development in later years. There is a strong emphasis on fun!

Level 2 ¨C Street Stars (Ages 6-8)
Ball-handling, passing and shooting are built upon, using more advanced drills and games. Elements of team play are introduced, alongside basic dribbling and contact rules. Modified games are used to provide opportunities to practice all aspects.

Level 3 - Dream Teamers (Ages 7-9)
While continuing to work on the basics, children are introduced to team play and positional understanding, and encouraged to think about these situations themselves. Offensive and defensive skills are introduced along with more advanced rules.

Level 4 ¨C The MVPs (Ages 8-11)
Further aspects of attacking and defensive play and positioning are introduced, with drills becoming more complex.  The rules of the game are defined further and pupils are asked to implement rules during activities.
