Cricket
Cricket is a global game which makes it an appropriate sport for Shanghai¡¯s multicultural expat community. Sport for Life¡¯s long running cricket program has been given a face lift for 2012 as we import England¡¯s ¡®Kwik Cricket¡¯ program which has gone from strength to strength in it¡¯s home country.
Using activities and drills revolving around the basic cricket skills of throwing, catching and striking, children move through Bronze, Silver and Gold levels on their way to being introduced to full cricket with hard balls in later years. Fully imported ¡®Kwik Cricket¡¯ equipment will be used until proper adult equipment is introduced.
All sessions involve skill work followed by a match, and we plan to launch the ¡®Shanghai Kwik Cricket League¡¯ this term for all age groups. Coaching sessions are held indoors for younger age groups, while matches and hard ball cricket can be played outside.
Level 1 - Cricket Stars (5-7 years - 60mins)
The initial focus here is developing basic motor skills. Fun games and drills are used to teach catching, throwing, bowling, striking and spatial awareness. Modified games are used to introduce teamwork and the basic concepts of cricket. The ball skills taught in this level provide an excellent platform for use in a wide range of sports.
Level 2 - Cool Cricketers (8-11 years - 60-90mins)
Children continue to develop the basic skills which are progressed towards skills used in full cricket. Plenty of match practice is provided, with modified games played to gradually introduce match rules.
Level 3 - IPL Legends (8-13 years - 60-90mins)
This group is focused on preparation to play full hard ball cricket matches. Full equipment is introduced as further knowledge of rules, tactics, techniques and etiquette are developed.
Junior Team (12-18 years - 1.5-2.5 hours)
We provide a mixture of training sessions and matches for this age group. Although players may begin to specialise, they are still encouraged to experience all aspects of the game.
