Sport for Life Dance
We offer a range of dance styles through progressive teaching programs that also give children the opportunity to perform in both small and large groups. All classes build on fundamental dance techniques and at the end of each season, all classes do an in class performance. All children also have the opportunity to take part in a show that brings together all our classes across Shanghai.
Creative Movement
Creative movement is an introduction for both Jazz and Hip Hop for younger children.
Teacher lead activities introduce the basic elements of dance including rhythm and time, movement qualities and dynamics, space, and use of the body. Students will be able to explore their own movement within the age appropriate creative structure of the class while gaining confidence and body awareness. Building on the basic elements of dance (time, dynamics, space, body), students will explore their own movement in class structures that begin to expand on each of these elements. Teacher lead activities that include axial and locomotor movement will introduce dance vocabulary and concepts at an age appropriate level to prepare students for future participation in any type of structured dance class.
Jazz
Jazz is a common form of dance used in musical theatre and commercial entertainment, and has roots in social dance and while being influenced by African-American traditions. Our course covers the basic steps, vocabulary, and variations of dance in these fields. Students learn basic techniques based on ballet and modern dance.
Jazz 1 is an introduction to the basic techniques of jazz dance. Students will learn basic stretches/warm-up exercises, across-the-floor sequences, dance combinations, and choreography for both in class and optional performances
Jazz 2 develops technique and choreography. The overall goal purpose of this course is to develop muscle tone, flexibility, and alignment for intermediate Jazz Dance technique as students learn and perform intermediate combinations. The course will also provide the student with an understanding of and appreciation for Jazz dance as well as aide the students in developing their own philosophy about dance.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop is a dance style characterized as free flowing, energetic, individualistic and always changing. As a result, various styles have emerged, such as Popping ¡®N Locking, Breakdancing, Crip Walking, Lyrical, Street, Krumping, Funky, and House. Our Hip hop classes are directed to learn a variety of these, as well as produce individual material, depending on personal style.
Hip Hop 1 (for beginners) is an introduction to the basic techniques of Street, Lyrical and Funky styles. Students will learn how to spin, jump, do basic footwork and floor works in various combinations to both the beat and the lyrics of the music.
Hip Hop 2 (for intermediates) develops the technique and choreography of Street, Lyrical and Funky styles, as well as introduces the basic techniques to Popping ¡®N Locking, Breakdancing, Crip Walking, Krumping and House. Students will learn how to do simple uprocks, 6 steps and freezes as well as develop more complex spins, jumps, footwork and floor works. All of which are done in various dance combinations also to both the beat and lyrics of the music.
Classes are usually conducted in the following sequence:

Ballet
Our ballet classes is an enjoyable way of learning the basics of the classical Ballet. Develop the movements of your body and also understand the dance and perform it together with the music. Learning the different terms that are used and putting the steps together.
Ballet 1 This class is a basic introduction to ballet for young beginners with the aim of introducing elements of ballet. We begin with simple movements such as walking, jumping,running, rising, gliding and bending, out on the floor, while being exposed to the relationship between music, rhythm, and dance. Ages 4-7 years
Ballet 2 Strengthen and point your feet, improve your turn-out and your body alignment in a classical ballet class. Use this class as a means to develop your ballet technique, or, establish it. Classes are set to live accompaniment, and include barre work, dancing centre floor, and dancing in leaps, jumps, and turns. For ages 7-10. Classes will include:

¡ñ Learning correct posture
¡ñ Basics of classical ballet, the five positions
¡ñ Exercise by the barre and on the floor
¡ñ Stretching and cool down
Ballet 3
This course will benefit students with prior dance training or those who have completed Level 2 or equivalent. Focus on technical accuracy, coordination of movement, improved technique and dance quality. Participants will develop an understanding of body anatomy through ballet, improving posture, flexibility and fitness. The class consists of floor barre, which includes warm-up exercises, barre work and centre practice, incorporating port de bras, adage, pirouettes and allegro enchainments. For ages 10+ years |
