Gymnastics is an excellent way to develop strength, flexibility, balance, spatial awareness and coordination helping to create a strong foundation for future activity.
3-4 years
Instruction includes backwards/forwards rolls, different kinds of jumps, movements and climbing excercises. The emphasis is on having fun and developing balance and coordination.
4-5 years
Instruction includes handstand and cartwheel techniques, backwards/forwards rolls, bridges, and different kinds of jumps and solid landings. Loco motor skills such as galloping and skipping are introduced. Springboard and balance beam exercises to develop coordination, strength and agility may also be used. The emphasis is on having fun and learning how to move and coordinate the body.
6-7 years
Instruction includes handstand and cartwheel techniques, backwards/forwards rolls, and a combination of tumbling movements, including bridges, pirouettes, walkovers, jumps and landings. There are also springboard exercises to include vaulting, handsprings and landing techniques, and balancing beam exercises. The emphasis is on having fun while learning basic gymnastics routines and tumbling combinations.
8-11 years
Instruction includes handstands with rolls, two and one handed cartwheels, handsprings, round offs, standing flicks, and combination of tumbling movements including bridges, pirouettes, walkovers, jumps and landings. There are also springboard exercises to include vaulting, handsprings and landing techniques, and balancing beam exercises. The emphasis is on learning basic and intermediate gymnastics routines combining floor and apparatus.
Clothing: Proper fitting T-shirts, shorts, sweat pants/shirts and leotards are all acceptable. Children participate in bare feet. No jewelry should be worn and all long hair must be tied back. |
